Holland Summer 2013

So we've been up to all kinds of exciting stuff this summer.  We've had play dates with friends, countless trips to the lake, Mike has taken a few road trips to watch dirt track racing and we've even squeezed in a little down time at home to just chill out.   I figured I'd drop a bunch of photos to document some of our fun this summer, so far!

We've eaten our weight in ice cream this summer. There's a new DQ in town, been open two weeks and Mike and I have already been there twice. I figure if I only go once a week, I'll be in fair shape. Hey, I've been visiting the gym a couple three times a week which is better than what I was doing in May and June.

The boys have been playing at the park in the evenings when it's not too hot to play outside.  This was taken at his school's summer kick off party at a local park.  One of henry's favorite things to do is "Race!"  As you can see here, he cheats. Ha!

I've wanted a front load washer and dryer for years now and finally convinced Mike that it was a practical decision for our family. I was admittedly sad to see my old pair go, the first appliances I ever bought on my own but I quickly got over that when these were delivered.   I thought this was a pretty cool 6th wedding anniversary gift, but the guy at The Home Depot thought it was pretty cool of me to accept such a gift for our anniversary.  Hey, I'm practical and Mike is too.

The washer works great, but the dryer, well I'm assuming it works great.
My dad came over today to hook up the gas connection for us and from what Mike told me, the new dryer didn't really care for the blocked air duct that was probably the culprit for our old dryer acting up.  Sigh. We had someone clean the duct earlier this year, but apparently they either didn't do a good job or didn't do the job at all.  Anyway, I'm sure I will enjoy laundry a little more once the dryer is up and running. I'm really excited about saving money since we're switching from electric to gas. Mike is going to put in a shelf over the machines so that I can have a workspace for folding. He's also going to hang a rack for stuff to air dry. It should be really nice in there once we get the to-do list checked off.

Oh and my Kiki Monster gave us a good scare not only last month but again over the last week or so.  Mid-June she was acting really weird last night and collapsed on the floor.  She was conscious but her breathing was labored and she was totally spaced out.  I panicked and took her to the vet the next morning and the vet said that it was highly possible that she had a seizure or mild stroke while we were out the night before.  We also found out that she has arthritis in her back which may be a reason for her slowing down and whining in the evenings.  Blood work came back good so we were sent on our merry little way with muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatory for her joints. Poor girl!!

So fast-forward 3 weeks and we noticed that her right eye was extremely bluish gray instead of black like normal.  After another vet visit, it was determined that she has a cataract and a possible lens luxation.  Of course wanting more information, I looked it up on Pets WebMD (great site, by the way) and freaked out at the possibility of her retina separating, permanent blindness, excruciating pain from the pressure, etc.  Yikes!! Our vet referred us to an animal ophthalmologist who we saw this afternoon.  The bright side of all this mess, Kiki's lens, although it had luxated, it had settled in the back towards the bottom which as the vet told me "that's the best case scenario."  I nearly cried I was so happy. Ok, I did cry, but I could have really embarrassed myself had I hugged and kissed that doctor like I wanted to.  Huge relief!!  She'll be on eye drops for the rest of her life, but she's beyond worth that tiny bit of inconvenience.  We love our Kiki girl and would do anything to keep her happy, comfortable and healthy.
You know you're in trouble when your dog needs to go to a 3-story medical facility that's exclusively for veterinarian medicine.  Yep.
And then there's this pain in the butt. Oh Lucy, I don't know what I'm going to do with this mess.  She is by far the most rowdy, out of control dog I've ever had.  She is 6 pounds but good grief this girl.  She's a loyal companion and Kiki's hearing ear dog so I guess she's not all that bad.  We are praying the puppy phase wears off soon or she will see herself in puppy training classes.  No more puppies for this family. I don't care how cute they are.

Henry has really enjoyed playing on the jetski and loves to go fast and in circles.  The kid is fearless which of course for his adventurous mom, this is a welcomed change. He was so shy and cautious in the past but now we have to remind him that there are boundaries and that we don't want to get hurt.  He's definitely a maniac.
He and Livie love playing on this raft. He's usually fine jumping off and on it but at this particular moment, you can tell he was struggling, which is an understatement in itself. So funny watching him trying to stand up.  Goofy kid!

We signed Henry up for swimming lessons which start tomorrow morning.  I'm curious to see how he will do with a new teacher and new surroundings, but I think he will be a little more eager since Liv will be there.   We went swimming at Nana and Papa's neighborhood pool a couple of weeks ago and it was a hit!

So there's our summer, about halfway done.  We are having fun and really enjoying watching Henry do all kinds of new things.  He was challenging last summer and quite frankly, it wasn't ever really this fun. We're hoping it only continues to be this awesome from here on out.  We hope y'all are having a great summer too!
